Finding the perfect solar solution isn’t always easy – that’s why EnergySage has a team of Energy Advisors here to help answer any and all of your solar questions. One of our expert advisors is Aliza: we sat down with her to learn more about her time at EnergySage and hear some inside tips for people shopping for solar today.
What’s a common solar myth you hear from people looking into solar?
A common myth I hear is that firefighters don’t like to work on houses with solar; in fact, if firefighters do show up at your home, they have quick and easy ways of turning off your solar panel system to avoid any electrical hazards. Today, there are hundreds of firehouses throughout the country with solar panel systems on them.
If you could give only one piece of advice to solar shoppers, what would it be?
Don’t focus too much on solar production estimates from installers before you have them out for a site visit; these numbers can change once they have a chance to assess your property in person. To start, I recommend focusing more on the price per Watt ($/watt), which will help you gauge the competitiveness of a quote on the price front.
Why do you enjoy working in the solar industry?
I love working in solar because there is always something new to learn; I am in an industry that is having a positive impact for today and the future.
What’s your favorite part about working at EnergySage?
The people at EnergySage are amazing – everyone here is so passionate about what they do and our mission. It’s just a fun place to work.
Are there any upcoming trends or changes to the solar industry that you’re excited about?
The introduction of storage into the solar industry is very exciting. This is going to be a game-changer for power markets. It is a major step in creating a much more resilient future.
Do you have a favorite solar joke?
My neighbor told me he was getting solar panels – what a power move!
Are there any famous solar advocates/environmentalists that you look up to?
Michael Braungart and William McDonough, founders of the Cradle to Cradle Product Innovation Institute and co-authors of the book Cradle to Cradle: Remaking the Way We Make Things. They are leaders in the sustainability community, rethinking how we make the products around us.
When you’re not busy talking about solar, what do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
I teach a figure drawing class once a week, and also make really cool art using a laser cutter (Author’s note: check out the sign Aliza made for the EnergySage office!)
