Solar news: November 12th, 2021

In this week’s news roundup, we discuss an exciting new update in large-scale solar and ADT’s recent acquisition of SunPro Solar.

Indiana Solar farm to be the largest in the United States

A new partnership between Doral Renewables, LLC and the state of Indiana has produced the aptly named Mammoth solar project, a utility scale array that will span 13,000 acres. This array will produce about one gigawatt of electricity (equal to one million kilowatts): sufficient power to fuel 117,000 midwestern households annually. The project was funded from private investment and the company itself, and the land it will occupy was purchased from mostly private landowners. It’s set to be fully operational by 2024.

ADT Acquires SunPro Solar

Home security company ADT recently acquired SunPro Solar for a deal valued at $825 million. SunPro will function as a separate branch of ADT called “ADT Solar” and will retain its CEO and leadership staff. ADT president and CEO Jim DeVrines said that the move was a part of a larger strategy to expand into the energy management space. ADT also recently announced a $450 million investment by Google, allowing them to offer Google’s Nest smart home pod integrated with ADT’s home security system. These investments will help ADT expand their services to holistically cover energy efficiency and energy security, as well as general home security services.
